The WWTF funding guidelines require at least two reviews for each proposal in the full proposal phase. Generally, WWTF obtains three, often four reviews. To serve as a reviewer, the expertise of the reviewer must match the content of the proposal and the reviewer must have certain research experience. WWTF only invites reviewers with a non-Austrian affiliation to assess a proposal. WWTF also excludes potential reviewers with conflicts of interest defined as no on-going cooperation and no co-publication within the last five years. This period even might be longer, depending on how close the reviewer and the applicant worked together.

Applicants can suggest reviewers in the proposals, however, most of the reviewers are suggested by the call jury. The reviews are obtained by WWTF office. The applicants will be provided with the anonymized reviews after the decision making of the call jury.
