Since 2006, the University Infrastructure Programme initiative (UIP) is targeted at the nine public universities in Vienna defined in the University Act of 2002. Its declared goal is to strengthen Viennese universities as sites for research, teaching and development of the arts by funding middle-sized infrastructures.
Key evaluation criteria are that (i) the infrastructure should have a clear link to Vienna; (ii) the infrastructure is highly visible with regard to the university and the City of Vienna; and (iii) the university provides substantial in-kind contributions for the infrastructure.
Applications are accepted from the rectors' offices of the nine universities in Vienna during the defined submission period defined each year.
