The Life Sciences thematic call programme started in 2003 and is the longest standing programme of the fund. The life sciences play an important role and are strongly represented in the research landscape of Vienna, ranging from basic research to translational research. Hence, the fund has opened calls throughout the years with thematic focuses within these different areas of research: ranging from "Molecular Mechanisms and Methods" to "Personalized Medicine", spanning over other topics such as "Imaging", "Nutritional Sciences" and "Public Health". A strong emphasis is put on interdisciplinary and collaborative work between departments and institutes to foster interactive partnerships.
